The Dauphin Herald’s beginnings start in 1899 with Vol. 1 – No.1 published on Friday March 3, 1899, under the name ‘The Weekly News’. This name was changed in 1904 to ‘The Spectator’ and then once again later in that same year to the ‘Dauphin Herald’.
It was published every Thursday at the Office of the Dauphin Herald Publishing Co., Main Street, Dauphin. Subscription was a $1.00 a year in advance in the early 1900s.
I will be documenting excerpts from the Dauphin Herald concerning Ethelbert, Fork River, Mowat, North Lake, Sifton, and Winnipegosis. Furthermore, I will also be posting tidbits of news such as criminal cases, accidents, deaths, as well as news from WWI and WWII including causality lists.
If you have a particular day and township you would like me to take a look at and post on the blog I am more than happy to oblige. Presently I am working on backdating entries for the years 1899-1909 and 1910-1919. Once this has been complete I will work forward for 1920-1929 and so forth.

My grandfather was killed in a hunting accident on 25 DEC 1900. He was Ivan(John) Slobodzian. He resided in Fishing River. Do you have any newspaper details on that accident?

This is so neat to find. My grandmothers was a school Teacher in Dauphin in the (I’m guessing slightly here) 1940-50s. Her name was Jenny Gray, W. Leighton Gray was her husband. any pictures or articles would be delightful to find.
